Jul 17: After six months of protest, Peyton Fleming of the De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition said they were waiting on final assurances from Citizens Bank that it was ending its relationship with CoreCivic and the GEO Group. The decision follows the withdrawal of substantial funds by Montclair, NY, and Jersey City, as well as individual customers and organizations.
Jul 21: DHS-ICE-Surge-Parking: (Request for Information) ICE is looking for parking space across the country in 14 key areas according to a SAM.gov listing. States include CA, CO, TX, NM, WA, MA, MS, NV, PA, MO, LA, and AZ. See SAM.gov
Jul 22: The New York Times published an in-depth article of abuses and overcrowding in ICE hold rooms across the country.
Jul 23: In Berks County PA, the local school district paused the planning of a high school renovation project because the January sale of a warehouse to ICE removed property taxes from the district and caused enough uncertainty to disrupt the budgeting process.
Jul 25: US District Judge Stephen McGlynn (Trump appointee) sided with the Justice Department ruling that Illinois’ in-state tuition policies, the RISE Act, and the Illinois DREAM Act are unconstitutional as they apply to illegal immigrants. The Justice Department is also suing Colorado for offering in-state tuition and financial aid to illegal immigrants.
Jul 24: The newly created Office of Immigrant Trust in NY sent 12 letters to local law enforcement agencies with 287(g) agreements telling them that they must end those arrangements by Aug 25.
Jul 25: From MSN-Now Reporter Jabob Soboroff: A Special Report on the Surveillance Ecosystem Built Into the Government: Police fusion centers are intelligence hubs created after 9/11 to share information among local police, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and other federal agencies. This ‘Connect’ Special Report explores how their role in the president’s immigration crackdown – and in his expanding domestic terrorism dragnet – has received remarkably little scrutiny (see below for link).
Jul 25: TheNational rally against the Trump administration’s deadly immigrant crackdown and vigils for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Johan Sebastian Guerrero, Juan Jairo Coronilla Duran, and others were held.
Jul 26: CSI Aviation and GlobalX are being sued by Venezuelan men who were flown to Cecot last year. The lawsuit accuses the airlines of transporting the men despite orders by a federal judge to turn the flights around and despite knowing that in all likelihood the men would be tortured in El Salvador.
Jul 27: The Guardian reported on how immigration courts are now using mass hearings and removal orders ‘in absentia’ to allow judges to process unprecedented numbers of cases facilitating mass deportation. More than 100,000 cases were closed in June.
Jul 27: Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for Haitians ended leaving 300,000 vulnerable to deportation. Thousands of Syrians also lost protection.
Jul 28: Reuters reported on that the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), who has responsibility for housing unaccompanied migrant children, has been sharing information with ICE. Under previous administrations these agencies were walled off from each other for the protection of children. More than 12,000 were arrested by ICE following ORR leads according to internal government documents.
Jul 28: The Trump administration has implemented a new rule aimed at reducing the 1.4 million backlog of asylum cases in U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Approximately 450,000 cases could be transferred directly to one of the Justice Department’s immigration judges. Because these judges can dismiss certain cases without a hearing, attorneys say it is possible that many asylum seekers will be deported without a chance to be heard.
Jul 28: The Guardian reported that California City detention center, California’s largest such facility, has failed to comply with a judge’s order to provide adequate healthcare for detainees according to a court-appointed investigator. The facility failed in all eight areas identified for review by the judge. This is the first full-scope medical review ordered by a court. CoreCivic runs the facility.
Jul 28: Dr. Anita Patel (Pediatrician) was part of US Rep. Joaquin Castro’s delegation to visit Dilley detention center where families are housed. Dr. Patel is a critical care doctor from Children’s National Hospital in Washinton, DC. Following her visit, she called the facility the “Dilley trailer prison.” She accused ICE of child abuse and human rights violations.
Jul 29: The GEO Group officially announced the contract on the Rivers Facility in Winton, NC. GEO and ICE signed a 5-year support services deal to activate a federal immigration processing center. GEO expects to generate $80M in the first year.
Jul 30: ICE and TSA are working together to arrest foreign visitors at airports who have overstayed their U.S. visas, this includes spouses of Americans. This has led to a surge of arrests at airports. A memo of agreement between the agencies was signed in May 2025.
Jul 30: Colorado Public Radio continues to cover a standoff situation over a TB outbreak at a detention facility in Aurora, CO in which the state requires access to investigate and the GEO Group refuses entry and compliance with state law. Last month, GEO filed a lawsuit arguing that they don’t need to follow state law because of the supremacy clause.
Jul 30: The UFW Foundation released a survey of farmworkers entitled, “Under the Sun and Out of the Shadows” with the goal of better understanding the impact of immigration enforcement on farmworkers and their families during the initial period of the second Trump administration. Link below.
